Islamic Militants, formally known as ISIS, issued a formal statement to the Christians in the City of Mosul, in northern Iraq, demanding them to comply with the terms to convert to Islam, pay the jizya, the poll tax on Christians, or face the sword.
The statement by the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, warned that the Christians had until Saturday 19th July 2014 to “leave the borders of the Islamic Caliphate.” “After this date, there is nothing between us and them but the sword,” the statement said.
Due to the Islamic States ultimatum to the Christians to convert to Islam, pay a religious tax or face death many of the Christians homes were marked with the Arabic letter "N," for Nazaranewhich is used to describe Christians because they follow Jesus of Nazareth. The Islamist militants assumed that the word “Nazarene” is an “in insult, an emblem, of shame”.
Most Assyrians of Mosul responded by fleeing the city. Every day, thousands of Assyrians struggle to survive. The world’s first Christian nation faces yet another silent genocide. They have been forced to flee from their homes for fear of being tortured, raped, or killed. They have no “safe haven” to turn to and are forced to live as illegal immigrants throughout the Middle East. They are not allowed any basic civil or human rights, and they live in severe poverty.
All profits of purchases will go to ACERO, a non-profit organization that donates 100% of all funds raised directly towards helping needy Assyrian in their desperate time of need.
